Net Zero Week (4–10th July) is a reminder that the journey towards a more sustainable future requires action. That action starts with understanding the buildings you already own and operate.
In 2025, a 2% decrease in total UK net territorial greenhouse gas emissions could be seen in comparison to 2024. Around 75% of the overall greenhouse emissions could be credited to carbon dioxide. The overall figure of carbon emissions in 2025 was estimated to be 367 million.
Buildings are responsible for a significant proportion of energy use and carbon emissions, meaning that improving the performance of existing estates will play a crucial role in achieving Net Zero targets. However, before organisations can reduce emissions, they need a clear understanding of their current position.
At OMNIA, we provide several services that help increase understanding of your building. These include, but aren’t limited to, Lifecycle Surveys, Asset Management Planning and Building Condition Surveys.
Through these techniques, we can identify where improvements will have the greatest impact. From ageing infrastructure and inefficient systems to maintenance requirements and opportunities for refurbishment, understanding the condition and performance of a building is key to making informed decisions.
Net Zero is not simply about installing new technology or making isolated improvements. It is about taking a whole-building approach, considering how assets are managed, maintained and improved over their entire lifecycle.
At OMNIA, we believe that successful Net Zero strategies begin with knowledge. By understanding the buildings we work with, we can help clients make practical decisions that support sustainability, resilience and better-performing estates.
This Net Zero Week, the question for every organisation should be:
Do you understand your building well enough to plan its journey to Net Zero?
